Linux Basics (August 2014)

August 4 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

This class teaches the basics of using a Linux system, starting with what Linux is, where it came from, and why you might want to use it.

In addition to a basic introduction to the operating system, students will also get a chance to try out Linux and learn about the following topics:

  • Package managers
  • Users and permissions
  • The Linux Kernel
  • Installing Linux
  • How to log in and use it

If you have a laptop that can boot from a CD or USB drive, bring it along, you can try Linux on your own laptop without clobbering the operating system that’s installed.
